Scott Ellis

Hi, I’m Scott, and as a trained actor, musician and recently retired children’s librarian, I wake up everyday to entertain. When I am behind the microphone, my sole purpose is to bring life to the characters I am voicing, to convince you that you have been transported to another place or make you emotionally connected to the topic. My voice has been described as powerful yet calm, smooth and strong, it can be dynamic and I can portray many voice characterizations but remains easy to listen to while maintaining a consistent cadence and rhythm. Scott Ellis Reads have produced over 90 audiobooks, both in the genres of fiction and non-fiction. One of the best parts about working with me as your narrator is that I understand the ownership an author has over their book and I am willing to work closely with them to ensure the narration has the correct tone or “feel” that the author wishes to communicate. I am incredibly genuine, flexible and I want each author to be thrilled about the way the audio sounds on their project.

Josie Ellis

Hi, I’m Josie! As a professional in Human Resources for over 25 years, I have performed comfortably in front of many audiences.  This makes the transition from HR to voice acting fairly easy.  Since 2019, I have been providing commercial voice overs for video games, commercials, educational presentations, phone systems and e-learning material.  Prior to voice acting, I have been working alongside Scott building our small business known as Scott Ellis Reads.  In addition to the “behind the scenes” work, I have been proofing, editing and mastering audiobooks and voice narration for many talented narrators.

My narration journey began in summer 2020. A lot changed for a lot of people. I decided to change my path and follow my passion. I have spent a lifetime reading stories and 20 years performing them. It has been a great honor to be accepted to this unique community. I have a very resonant voice, low with good range. I specialize in romance, mystery, thriller, and nonfiction.

Heidi

I'm Heidi from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have an English teacher background and have always loved performing on stage. The combination of my love of reading, writing, and bringing characters to life are such a natural lead-in to audiobook narration. I love to dive into different worlds, get to know new characters or content and bring it all to life, offering another way for people to absorb a story or nonfiction content. I'm also a multi-tasker, so I am a huge fan of listening to audiobooks, myself. I can get so much done while enjoying a good story or learning powerful information! I am excited to be a part of this team and look forward to working with you.

I guess you could say I've been a professional story teller for a long time. As a news reporter, I learned how to describe what I saw, live from the scene and convey the emotions felt by the news-makers. As a sports announcer, I made you feel every bone crunching hit the quarterback took on the field. These days, I'm spontaneously telling two minute stories about the power and determination of human and animal as a horse racing announcer. I've been a compelling, dynamic communicator for over three decades. It's that skill, experience and professionalism that I will bring to your story as a member of the Scott Ellis Reads Team!

Kay

Hi, I’m Kay and I live in Indianapolis. I’m a former music industry vet who toured for five years and even had two co-writes on Billboard top 100 Gospel charts. Last year Scott became my voice over mentor and I’m thrilled to be apart of his team! I love to bring narrations to life for the listener and to work hand and hand with you as the author to fulfill your vision. I can’t wait to work with you!

John

Hi, I'm John, a non-fiction audiobook narrator and voice over talent based in Dallas-Fort Worth. I bring an articulate, authoritative approach to audiobook narration that is also easy listening for audiences. I specialize in various genres including Biographies & Memoirs, History, Sports & Outdoors, Health & Wellness, and Parenting, Relationships & Personal Development. In addition to audiobooks, I write and voice corporate, explainer and training videos as the full-time male voice over talent for Samsung Care.

When I'm not working on narration and voice over projects, I'm cheering for my alma mater Syracuse University Orange, playing tennis and pickleball, spending family time with my wife Brandi and dog Fletcher, and daydreaming about our next beach vacation.

I can't wait to get started to help you expand the reach of your work!

Carol

Hi, I’m Carol, and I come to the world of voice-over and narration through the world of opera, musical theater, and cabaret. My career includes a stint as an on-air classical music radio host, so I was familiar with being in front of a microphone. I know now that’s just the beginning! I started to explore the art of voice-over as a way to expand in new directions and encounter new challenges. Audio narration melds my lifelong love of literature with my passion for storytelling in song. I love working with Scott — he’s a dedicated teacher and mentor who offers well-targeted coaching that fosters a growth mindset and a desire for continual improvement. Happy to be aboard!

Lauren

In 2019, I began my journey into navigating the incredible and exciting world of narration. I started my adventure on ACX, narrating books in my bedroom with a mic I bought off of Amazon, convinced I would be a millionaire soon. Well, that hasn’t become a reality quite yet, but I have developed my craft and honed my skills enough to consider myself a success. As an elementary school librarian (who stole Scotts job), I read with feeling, emotion, and animation daily. My greatest pride is instilling a love of reading in children who previously thought that it was the most boring thing imaginable. I truly love having the opportunity to read as not only a passion, but as a career. I look forward to working with all my colleagues, clients, and future cohorts as we continue this wild journey of literature.

Brian

Hey there! Born and raised in California, I have spent the last couple of decades in beautiful Colorado. I guess you could say I started in voice work way back in elementary school. Remember that peculiar kid with goofy voices and weird accents? I’m what they grow up into. I caught the acting bug in high school and could never shake it off. It became obvious that I needed to get into voice acting seriously when I was the only one my kids would request for their bedtime stories.

Over the last decade, I’ve narrated dozens of books. I am honored to work with award-winning authors and podcasts to bring tales to life. I’ve been detectives in the 1950s, billionaire playboys solving mysteries, teenage boys in love, and even a Russian submarine captain. Having decided that wasn’t enough, I started my own podcast in 2019.

I love my time in front of a microphone, conjuring characters and finding their voices. I am thrilled to be joining Scott and his whole crew for a new phase of my career and honored to continue breathing life into stories of all shapes and sizes.

Joe

Hi, I’m Joe. I have lived in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts my entire life. I come from a family who loves to sing and perform. My Dad sang in a Barbershop Chorus and Quartet for close to 50 years. He shared his passion of singing with his family. As a young adult, I joined my father in performing with the chorus and a quartet as a lead singer. During this time I learned a great deal about 4 part harmony and performing on stage. This lead to my next endeavor of performing in various community variety shows, entertaining through music and acting.

During the pandemic, when community entertainment was shut down, I was excited to hear about the opportunity to learn audio book narration through Scott Ellis Reads. I realized this was the path for me to continue to entertain through narration.

Scott has been a wonderful teacher and has brought me down a path I never imagined I would take. I am grateful to be a part of the SER team and look forward to sharing talent and working with you!

Melissa

Hi my name is Melissa, I am a Western Mass native and I have always been a performer in some way since I was a child. I am a recently retired educator and after 27 years working with students you learn how to become a pretty creative story teller. I had the pleasure of working with Scott in a middle school classroom and already knew what a great teacher he was. When the opportunity arose for me to try a new adventure under his guidance I jumped at it. I have to say so far this has been a great learning curve and pushing me to try new things that I would never thought possible. So glad that I jumped in!

Dom 2.jpg

Dom

Born and raised in the Berkshires but now currently residing in Winooski VT and, as you can tell by the T-shirt and phone case, I am a huge nerd. Mainly a DC Comics/Batman guy. I have a history of acting/performing and I've always harbored a dream of voicing a character in a video game (one of my favorite hobbies) or reading various audiobooks. I went to Champlain for game development but realized that I liked doing voice-over work much more than developing games. For years I did a lot of freelance voiceover work and had moderate success before I was persuaded to reach out to the SER team and start coaching. Coaching has taught me much more vital information about the VO world than I could have learned myself and I hope to bring various worlds to life with my array of accents, character voices and even a few impressions.

Julie

Hi, I’m Julie, and I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, with a view of Shenandoah National Park from our back deck. Finding myself winding down a long and interesting 32-year career that took me all over the world on many amazing adventures, I was looking for my “next act,” when a colleague introduced me to Scott and the world of voice work. As a lifelong book lover and storyteller, I immediately felt at home in this venue. My mother was an English teacher and my father was a minister, so I grew up in a household where we were always reading aloud to each other. I also worked as a radio DJ for a time, and listeners called in all the time to tell me what a wonderful voice I had. I am thrilled to have Scott as a mentor, and to be on this great team of really genuinely good people!

Brandi

My name is Brandi, and I live in sunny Southern California. While I don’t think you could call me a “theater kid”, I did perform in several plays as a child, and have had other opportunities to speak, sing, and perform on stage. I’ve always been…chatty. This got me into a lot of trouble as a kid, but has proved to have enhanced my professional life quite a lot! My previous roles as a retail, restaurant, and executive recruiter taught me many skills relevant to voice acting, such as speaking clearly and confidently in order to communicate important concepts and facts effectively. In addition, as a young mother of three and now grandmother of two (as well as caring for the children of many friends throughout the years) I have been creating character voices for my entire adulthood! Bringing stories to life gives me great joy, so I am thrilled to have found and learned so much from Scott Ellis Reads, and am honored to be part of the team!

Wendy

Hi, I’m Wendy. I live in MA, just outside of Boston, yet born and raised in southern CT. I am a pathologist’s assistant who works in the hospital laboratory setting, handling patients’ specimens. A critical component of my job requires an accurate account of what I’m doing, essentially creating a short story, called a “gross description” of what I receive and how I handle it for further processing to ultimately render a medical diagnosis. For more than 27 years, I’ve been dictating into a microphone, daily, for hours, as part of my job. Now in the twilight stage of my career, I’m looking for the next step of my journey in life. I’ve always loved to read out loud, be it articles, poems, passages, books, scripture, etc. I personally enjoy audio books, and have always wondered what it would be like to narrate them, but had no idea where to start. Meeting Scott and Josie while on one of my work assignments was a fortunate circumstance. I am delighted to be part of the SER team and blessed to be mentored by such an accomplished teacher and established narrator/performer! Bringing words to life is notonly an adventure, it’s a privilege.
